CIEE Travel Grants (Study Abroad Advisor Information)
For undergraduates: this fellowship provides travel grants to a range of countries.

II-VI Foundation Student Scholarships 

Up to a $10,000 scholarship to students who spend a minimum of nine weeks in any year working for a private, for-profit company in a position related to the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline that they study in college. Students with POEs of chemistry and physics are most competitive.  See the link above and here for more information.

Sophomores and Juniors

Amgen Scholars Program (John Unger)

The Amgen scholarship program identifies the very top undergraduate students in science across the county and presents them with an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of science at some of the world’s leading research universities.  Approximately 300 awarded annually.

Department of Homeland Security Scholarship Program

Intended for students interested in pursuing the basic science and technology innovations that can be applied to the DHS Mission. The award includes full tuition and fees and $14,000 annually in stipend, including a 10-week summer internship doing research in a DHS-related area.  Sixty awards are made annually to undergraduates.

Goldwater (Ursula Williams)

The nation's most prestigious award for science and math undergraduates intending to pursue a Ph.D.  Approximately three hundred awards of $7,500 for tuition and fees are made annually. 

Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship at NOAA (Matt Powell)

This scholarship seeks to promote student training in atmospheric and oceanic science by awarding up to 100 scholarships annually.

National Security Education Program: David L. Boren Scholarships (Study Abroad Advisor)

Approximately 130 awards made annually of up to $20,000 for study abroad based on need. 

Thomas R. Pickering (Emil Nagengast)

The Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship seeks to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. Financial support of up to $50,000 annually towards tuition, fees, and living stipend.

St. Andrews Society of Philadelphia (Study Abroad Advisor)

The St. Andrews Society of Philadelphia was founded in 1747 to provide relief to "...distressed Scotch immigrants and the widows and minor children of such immigrants." It has been in continuous existence ever since. Benjamin Franklin was frequently a guest at their meetings, and five of their members signed the Declaration of Independence. In 1957, the Society formed a foundation to promote understanding between the U.S. and Scotland by providing scholarships for students from both countries. The foundation provides 5 undergraduate scholarships per year to students in colleges/universities near Philadelphia: two to the University of Edinburgh, and one each to the Universities of Aberdeen, Glasgow, and St. Andrews.

Truman Scholarship (Dennis Plane)

The Truman Scholarship provides $30,000 to attend graduate or professional school for undergraduates interested in a career in public service (including government, the non-profit sector, etc).

Morris K. Udall (George Merovich)

Sophomores or juniors with superior talent and committed to environmental fields.

Seniors

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows

Each year the Endowment offers 8-10 one-year fellowships to uniquely qualified graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. Carnegie Junior Fellows work as research assistants to the Endowment's senior associates.

Coro Fellows Program (Emil Nagengast)

This is a nine-month program of experiential training dealing with public policy issues within a community.

DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship Program (Jill Keeney)

Provides graduate training in basic research in areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences relevant to the Office of Science.  Relevant research will address national needs in energy, environment, and national security.  Fellows will receive a $35,000 yearly stipend for living expenses, $10,500 per year for tuition and fees and a $5,000 research stipend supplement for research materials and travel expenses. 

EPA STAR Fellowships (Norris Muth)

EPA’s STAR graduate fellowship program supports master’s and doctoral candidates in environmental studies.  Fellows receive $37,000 for tuition, stipend, and expenses for several years of graduate study.

Fulbright Fellowship (Jim Tuten)

The US Department of State's premier program.

Gates/Cambridge (Jim Tuten)

Endowed by Bill and Melinda Gates, scholars must be accepted to study at Cambridge University and interested in having an impact in the areas of health, equity, technology, and learning.

Green Corps Leadership Training Program

Offers a year of paid full-time training in environmental leadership and advocacy.

The Hertz Foundation (Ryan Mathur)

The Hertz Foundation's Graduate Fellowship award provides graduate education scholarship and a stipend and is renewable annually for up to five years.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowships in Biological Sciences

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute awards five-year fellowships for full-time study toward a Ph.D. or an Sc.D. degree in the biological sciences.

Humanity In Action Summer Programs

Those selected participate in a five-week seminar on international minority issues.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award

$10,000 to fund one year of international public service.

Insight Fellowship Program

This fellowship moves fellows around to collaborative humanitarian partners.

Davies-Jackson

This program funds study at St. Johns College Cambridge. It is especially for first generation college students.

James Madison Junior Fellows (Jim Tuten)

Two years of funding toward one of the following (listed in order of preference): Master of Arts degree (MA) in American history or in political science (also referred to as "government and politics" or as "government"); Master of Arts in Teaching degree (MAT) concentrating on either American Constitutional history (in a history department) or American government, political institutions and political theory (in a political science department); Master of Education degree (MEd) or the Master of Arts or Master of Science in Education, with a concentration in American history or American government, political institutions, and political theory.

Knowles Science Teaching Fellowship (Kathy Jones)

The total award for each Fellow is valued at nearly $150,000 over the course of the five-year Fellowship. Fellows receive tuition assistance while participating in a teacher credentialing program, monthly stipends, and grants for professional development and teaching materials.

Marshall Scholarship (Jim Tuten)

This Scholarship is for two years of graduate (or undergraduate) study at any British university and cover two years of study in any discipline.

Mitchell Scholarship (Bob Miller)

Funded by the US-Ireland, the George J. Mitchell Scholarships pay for one year of graduate school at any of the universities in Ireland or Northern Ireland.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (Norris Muth/Jill Keeney)

Over 1,500 scholarships for three years of graduate study in mathematics, science and engineering fields, including a $30,000 stipend and $10,500 for tuition and expenses.

There is an additional program (WENG or WICS) for women pursuing graduate degrees in engineering or in computer/ IT and engineering.

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarships cover all costs for two years at Oxford University.

Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship

Scoville Fellows earn a stipend to work on peace and security issues at a participating Washington, D.C. organization.  Deadlines are in early Fall or Spring each year. This fellowship is particularly relevant for Politics or Peace and Conflict Studies POEs, and includes a $2,300 monthly stipend, travel expenses to Washington, DC, and health insurance for six to nine months after graduation.

Soros Fellowships For New Americans (Jim Tuten)

The Soros Fellowships for New Americans pays the recipient a stipend ($20,000) and half of the cost of their graduate program. This program supports first generation Americans.
