Environmental Chemistry is the study of the chemistry of the natural environment and
human impact on that environment. It may include chemical processes that occur in
water, air, terrestrial, and living environments.
This knowledge can be applied to determining how pollutants move through the environment,
how to remediate polluted areas, and working on major environmental issues such as
                           climate change and ocean acidification.
This POE has the flexibility for students to focus on their areas of interest. Areas
of focus could include biochemistry and toxicology, aqueous chemistry, or environmental
                              geochemistry.

Study at the Raystown Field Station
Raystown Field Station Aquatic Ecology Semester
Students interested in aqueous systems have the opportunity to live and take their
classes at the Raystown Field Station, located on Raystown Lake. Classes include both
theory and hands-on experience on the lake and in streams. Click here for more information.
