Juniata uses a single-stream recycling system, where all recyclable items are placed into one bin and taken to a facility for sorting. The list of acceptable items can be reviewed below. Please note that glass is not recyclable.

Recyclable materials are collected in designated dumpsters and sent to Apple Valley Waste in Hagerstown, MD for processing, while garbage is collected in separate dumpsters and taken to Sandy Run Landfill in Hopewell, PA.

Last year, Juniatians recycled 19.44 tons! To increase recycling on campus, it's important to only recycle items on the acceptable items list, and to rinse containers before recycling. By keeping contamination rates low, more recycling can be sent to the processing facility. If you're unsure if an item can be recycled, it's best to place it in the trash so it does not contaminate the rest of the recycling.
