HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Blue Jays scored four in the fourth and eight in the eighth as Elizabethtown College upended Juniata College, 16-3, in nonconference action at Langdon-Goodale Field, on Wednesday afternoon.

Elizabethtown (17-8 overall) used a 16 hit attack, scoring at least one run in six of their nine innings. But it was the eighth inning where the Blue Jays really took control of the matchup.

They used eight hits to score eight runs, sending 13 hitters to the plate in the top half of the frame. The eight runs turned an 8-1 lead into a 16-1 deficit for the Eagles.

Juniata (7-18 overall) threatened to get back into the game on multiple occasions but could never get the clutch hit they were looking for. They had runners in scoring position in four innings, leaving a total of eight Eagles on base throughout the contest.

They scored single runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings, but it wasn't enough as the game was already in hand.

The Eagles got on the board in the fifth as Tom Eck (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) started the inning off with a double into left center field. Three batters later, and with two outs, Chase Dykstra (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) singled home Eck with his fifth RBI of the season.

The eighth inning looked to be off to a good start again, as Dysktra started the inning with a single into right field. But a sharp one hopper back to the mound by Andrew Kriss (Forrest Hill, Md./John Carroll) was fielded and relayed to second to start the double play.

But then Johnny Martinez (Mt. Union, Pa./Mt. Union) fired it up again, hitting a double down the left field line. Two batters later, pinch hitter Ryan Edley (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) singled up the middle, scoring Martinez from third.

Their final run came in the ninth inning, set up by pinch hitter Chris Budd (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle). Budd led off the inning singling to center field. Following a walk by Andrew Hirsch (Annandale, Va./Falls Church) and balk by Etown pitcher Matt Ruth, the Eagles had two runners in scoring position with nobody out.

Will Houser (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) tallied his first RBI of his collegiate career as he grounded out to the pitcher, but plating Budd.

Will Hoffman gets the loss for the Eagles as he pitched the first six and third innings for Juniata, giving up eight earned on six hits.

Wayne Leonard moves to 2-1 on the season for Elizabethtown pitching seven innings, giving up one run on five hits. He also struck out six and issued only two walks.

Juniata travels to King's Point, N.Y. this weekend to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Landmark Conference series starting Saturday. They don't return home again until April 24 and 25 when they host rival Susquehanna University.
