The following information is a general guide to recycling. Local recycling centers may have different practices for recycling the materials listed. It is important to check with your recycling center to see what materials can be recycled, and where.
Containers
What you can recycle:
- Aluminum & steel food and beverage cans
- Plastic bottles (1-7) with necks smaller than their bases
How to Prepare:
- Remove all caps and lids
- Rinse thoroughly
- It is ok to leave labels on
Unacceptable:
any GLASS, plastic cups, tubs, cups, trays, bags, take-out containers, & ceramics
Cardboard
What you can recycle:
- Cardboard boxes
- Pizza Boxes
- Cereal & jello boxes
- Paper towel & toilet paper rolls
- Paperboard packaging (i.e. tissue & shoe boxes)
How to Prepare:
- Remove all packaging (styrofoam, peanuts, bubble wrap, etc.)
- Flatten all boxes
Unacceptable:
Plastic bags, food-soiled cardboard (greasy), wax-coated cardboard (i.e. milk cartons)
Paper Products
What you can recycle:
- Office paper (any color)
- Shredded paper (single cut only)
- newspaper & inserts
- magazines & catalogs
- mail & envelopes
- paper bags
How to Prepare:
- Remove non paper objects from paper items (like a plastic piece in an envelope)
