FOOTBALL (2-5, 2-4 MAC): Nov. 1 vs. Lycoming*.

Juniata suffered a tough homecoming loss to Wilkes this past Saturday by a score of 44-7. The Eagles entered the contest as the second-best rushing team in the MAC, but were held to just 58 rushing yards. Juniata notched 179 yards passing through the air, as the team combined for 237 yards of total offense. The day did feature Juniata quarterback Greg Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) setting a new Juniata record for career passing yards. The junior signal caller has now thrown for 6,073 yards for his career, moving him 101 yards past the second man on that list. Troutman had 12 passes for 134 yards on the afternoon for Juniata. John Boyer (Belleville/Indian Valley) led the team with seven catches for 67 yards. Reserve quarterback Michael Meadows (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) scored Juniata?s lone touchdown on a one-yard scoring run. Meadows completed seven passes for 45 yards and while running for 10 yards.

Defensively, Steve Parsons (Blackhawk/Beaver Falls) set a new career high with 20 tackles in the game while adding a pass break up. Peter Thomas (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) had 13 tackles for the blue and gold, as well as a fumble recovery. Matt Garner (Bellwood-Antis/Tyrone) was also in double figures with 10 tackles and one tackles for a loss. Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) punted five times for an average of 34.4 yards per punt.

WOMEN?S SOCCER (7-8-2, 1-2-2 Commonwealth): Oct. 28 vs. Elizabethtown*; Nov. 1 vs. Moravian*.

Juniata earned arguably the biggest result in the 10-year history of the women?s soccer program when they battled 11th ranked Messiah to a 0-0 tie. Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) made nine saves in net for Juniata in the tie. The result was the first time Juniata has not suffered a loss at the hands of the Falcons, and the first time they have held them under two goals in a match. The Eagles followed up that effort by topping La Roche by a 2-0 margin. Treon recorded her second-straight shutout, and her third in four matches, as she made three saves in the victory. Sarah Lester (Thomas Jefferson/Jefferson Hills) and Claire Dempsey (Manheim Township/Lancaster) each had a goal for Juniata, while Lauren Smith (Emmaus/Zionsville) and Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Hanover) notched an assist apiece. Juniata will close the season with a pair of conference matches, and will likely need to win both contests to have a shot at a conference postseason spot.

MEN?S SOCCER (2-12-1, 1-4 Commonwealth): Oct. 29 at Elizabethtown*; Nov. 1 vs. Moravian*

The Eagle?s men?s squad dropped their only match of the week as they fell 6-1 on the road against Pitt-Greensburg. A red card assessed to the Juniata goalie in the first half forced the Blue and Gold to play a man down for much of the contest. Jeff Gehring (Exeter Township/Reading) scored his eighth goal of the season, giving Juniata a 1-0 lead in the match before the home team scored six unanswered goals. Josh Cady (Malvern Prep./Frazer) assisted on Gehring?s goal.

WOMEN?S VOLLEYBALL (32-0, 6-0 Commonwealth): Oct. 28 vs. Susquehanna*; Nov. 1 at Indiana (Pa.).
*Commonwealth Conference match.

Juniata has won its first 32 matches of a season for the first time since the 1996 season when Juniata posted a 43-1 record. This past week Juniata won five more matches, all of them by 3-0 counts. The Eagles swept play at the ?Wid? Guisler Invitational including a win over NYU, the ninth-ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Juniata also earned a 3-0 conference win over Widener. Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton), Katie Laucks (West York/York) and Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, N.D.) were all named to the All-Tournament team at the Guisler Invitational. Laucks led the team with 58 kills on the week with a .333 attack percentage. She also led the squad with 10 serve aces, and 13 blocks. Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) also topped the 50-kill mark with 51 finishes and a 3.30 kills per game average. Charles also brought up 48 digs and added 10 blocks. Danielle Hart (Central/Roaring Springs) led the team with 4.08 kills per game as she knocked out 49 kills on the week while chipping in 26 digs. Holtan paced Juniata with 69 digs for the Blue and Gold. Holtan now has 2,187 digs for his career which places her in 14th-place all-time in NCAA Division III in career digs. Dale orchestrated the offense from her setter spot, dishing out 192 assists on the week. She was second for the Blue and Gold with 50 digs and nine serve aces. Juniata hit .266 as a team on the week. Lindsey Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, Ohio) was a big factor of defense with 50 digs, an average of 3.33 per game.

MEN?S AND WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY: Nov. 1 at MAC Championships

The Juniata College men?s and women?s cross country teams competed in their own Juniata College Invitational on Saturday. Juniata had the top overall finisher on both the men?s and women?s side. The Eagle women finished first in an eight-team field, while the men placed third out of eight teams. Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) and Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) paced Juniata as they finished first and second overall respectively. The pair was separated by just two seconds with Glunt posting a winning time of 20:45. Also finishing in the top-five was Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistow) wh came home in fifth place. Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) crossed the line in 14th place and Lia Bella (Morris Catholic/Rockaway, N.J.) rounded out the top-five with her 15th-place finish. For the men Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) was the top overall finisher on the men?s side as he covered the course in a time of 28:14. Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) was second for Juniata as he finished 11th overall. Will Cantara (West Branch/Winburne) came home in 16th place. Joshua Leasure (Mt. Lebanon/Pittsburgh) finished 24th and Jeremy Lampert (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) capped Juniata?s top-five as he finished 30th.

FIELD HOCKEY (13-5, 4-2 Commonwealth): Oct. 28 vs. Susquehanna*; Nov. 1 vs. Montclair State.
*Commonwealth Conference match.

Juniata notched a huge conference victory as they defeated Lebanon Valley, the 14th-ranked team in NCAA Division III, by a 1-0 score. It was Juniata?s first-ever victory over the Flying Dutchmen. Billie Rickenbaugh (East Juniata/McAlisterville) scored the lone goal of the game off a pass from Grace McCluskey (West Perry/Elliotsburg). Melonie Sappe? (Dallas/Shavertown) made two saves in earning her third shutout of the season. Juniata played an excellent defensive game, limiting the Dutchmen to just two shots. Rickenbaugh then scored both goals as Juniata topped Seton Hill 2-0 to close the week. Juniata controlled the match as they limited the visitors to no shots while firing off 16 shots of their own. Sappe? earned another shutout in the cage for the Eagles and lowered her goals against average to 0.83 on the season. Juniata has one conference game remaining and if the Eagle top Susquehanna in that match-up, they will earn the team?s first conference postseason spot since the 1990 season.

WOMEN?S SWIMMING: Nov. 1 at MAC Relays

The Juniata College swimming team opened their season at the Clarion Invitational. The Eagles had a solid first week, competing against mostly Division II squads, Juniata finished seventh out of eight teams. Kim Allen (Susquehanna Twp./Harrisburg) led the Juniata team with first-place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. Allen swam an ECAC automatic qualifying time in the 200-yard breaststroke, and provisionally qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 100. Allen also placed fifth in the 400-yard freestyle. Kim Dierolf (Boyertown Area/Barto) swam to a strong finish as she placed fourth in the 1,650 freestyle.
