WOMEN?S SOCCER (3-6, 0-2 Commonwealth): Oct. 1 at Pitt-Greensburg; Oct. 5 vs. Mt. Aloysius.
*Commonwealth Conference match.

Juniata split a pair of matches on the week, but their win was a record-breaking one as the Eagles netted a program record 13 goals in a win over Pitt-Bradford. Juniata topped the visitors 13-0, and had a pair of players net hat tricks. Freshmen Alicia Walsh (Latrobe/Latrobe) and Catherine Hoyt (Sandy Springs Friends/Silver Springs, MD) each scored three goals. Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Hanover) scored a pair of goals, and added three assists for a team-best seven points. Amy Tyler (Altoona/Altoona) had two goals and an assists, while Alison Kampstra (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) had a pair of goals as well. Claire Dempsey (Manheim Township/Lancaster) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles while Kelsey Brewer (Riverview/Oakmont) added an assist. Amanda Rice (James Buchanan/Greencastle) made one save in net for the blue and gold. Earlier in the week the Eagles dropped a 2-0 decision at Lycoming. Linsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) had one save in net for Juniata in the loss.

FIELD HOCKEY (6-3, 2-1 Commonwealth): Oct. 4 at Houghton.

Juniata split a pair of Commonwealth Conference matches on the week, topping Widener 2-1 in overtime and losing a 3-1 decision to Messiah, the number three ranked team in the country. After falling behind Widener 1-0, Juniata got goals from Jean Silvey (Red Lion/Airville) and Grace McCluskey (West Perry/Elliotsburg) to rally for the victory. Elise Zimmerman (Cumberland Valley/Boiling Springs) assisted on the game-winner to pick up her team-leading third assist of the season. Melonie Sappe? (Dallas/Shavertown) had eight saves in the match including two with the game on the line in overtime. Against Messiah, Juniata again looked to rally, this time after falling behind 2-0. Sierra Dickman (Foxcroft School/Marshall, Va.) scored to cut the deficit to 2-1, but despite Sappe?s eight saves?many of them spectacular?the Eagles could not complete the comeback.

WOMEN?S VOLLEYBALL (16-0, 2-0 Commonwealth): Sept. 30 vs. Moravian*; Oct. 3-4 vs. ASICS Invitational

The number one team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll remained unbeaten with five wins on the week. Juniata topped Lebanon Valley 3-0 and then earned wins over RIT, Princeton, Seton Hill and Franklin and Marshall at Juniata Invitational. Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) topped all Eagle players with 47 kills on the week, while hitting at a .378 clip. She also chipped in 21 digs and three blocks and seven aces. Juniata had four other players top 30 kills for the week as Katie Laucks (West York/York), Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.), Danielle Hart (Central/Roaring Spring) and Lindsey Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, Ohio) had 41, 36, 36 and 31 kills respectively. Kines knocked out 36 kills and had a team-best .537 hitting percentage on the week. Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, N.D.) brought up 64 digs to lead the unit, while Hart was second with 37 digs. Abby Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) also contributed 31 digs from her libero position. Setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) continued her outstanding early-season play as she passed out 185 assists while tossing in 12 serve aces to lead the team and 27 digs and a team-high six blocks. As a team, Juniata hit .348 on the week, and averaged 16.06 digs per game on the week.

MEN?S AND WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY: Oct. 4 at Dickinson Invitational

The Juniata men?s and women?s cross country teams put together dominating performances at the Penn State-Altoona Invitational Saturday afternoon. The women earned a first-place team finish with 20 points as the Eagles? top-five runners placed second through sixth. On the men?s side the Eagles scored 21 points, 29 points better than the runner-up. Each race featured a field of five schools. Juniata placed their top five runners in the top six. Freshman Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep/Baltimore, MD) led the Eagle pack with a second-place finish with a time of 25:00. She was just eight seconds off the winning time. Juniata then claimed the next four places as Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown), Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, MD), Lia Bella (Morris Catholic/Rockaway, N.J.) and Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) finished third through sixth in that order. There was 29 seconds separating third through sixth place. On the men?s side Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) won the men?s race with a time of 28:14. It marked the first time Sheaffer has finished first in an invitational collegiate race. His previous top finish was when he placed ninth at the Roanoke Invitational last year as a freshman. Right behind him was teammate Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) who placed second, just 11 seconds behind Sheaffer. Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) and Will Cantara (West Branch/Winburne) finished fourth and fifth respectively. Finally, Jason Freeman (Thornton/Thornton, CO) rounded out Juniata?s top-five with his ninth-place finish.

WOMEN?S TENNIS (2-7, 1-4 MAC): Oct. 2 at Clarion; Oct. 4 at Albright*
*MAC Opponent.

Juniata dropped two matches on the week, with one of the matches shortened due to rain. Lindsey Dipaola (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) captured a win at number one singles and Jenna Taylor (Pequea Valley/Narvon) won at the number six singles spot as Juniata dropped a match at Waynesburg by a 7-2 score. The Eagles also fell at Elizabethtown 5-0, as the final four singles matches were prematurely ended due to weather.

The Eagles were ousted 4-0 in their only action of the week as they lost a home contest to King?s College. After hanging tough for the first half, the Eagles could not withstand an 18-minute assault in which the visitors netted three goals. Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) had three saves in net for Juniata, and allowed three of the tallies. Michael Alianiello (Altoona/Altoona), Jeff Gehring (Exeter Township/Reading) and Mike Gwiazdowski (Central York/York) all had a pair of shots on the afternoon for Juniata.
