Huntingdon, Pa—Juniata College will host several musical performances in Alumni Hall and the Rosenberger Auditorium in the month of November. All performances are free and open to the public.

The Concert Choir will kick off the fall season for the Juniata Music Department with a performance on Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. in Rosenberger Auditorium, Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.

On Nov. 14, the Choral Union will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Rosenberger Auditorium.

On Nov. 16, the Juniata Jazz ensemble will hold their fall concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Alumni Hall, Brumbaugh Academic Center.  The ensemble, under the direction of Jordan Canner, will perform The Beat Goes On by Sonny Bono, arranged by Alan Baylock; In the Stone by Maurice White, David Foster, and Allee Willis, arranged by Victor Lopez; Moondance by Van Morrison, arranged by Roy Phillippe; Cold Duck Time by Eddie Harris, arranged by Erik Morales; When I Fall in Love by Victor Young, arranged by Craig Skeffington; Well You Needn’t by Thelonious Monk, arranged by Mark Taylor; Pipeline Howl by Philip Loewen; Zoot Suit Riot by Steve Perry, arranged by Paul Murtha; Song for my Father by Horace Silver, arranged by Mark Taylor; and Misty by Erroll Garner, arranged by Terry White. 

The Wind Symphony’s performance will take place on Nov. 17 in Rosenberger Auditorium. Directed by James Latten, professor of music, the Symphony’s repertoire features Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich, Consecration of the House (Overture) by Ludwig van Beethoven, Fanfare: Generation Next by Zachary Cairns, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (Chorale Prelude on a Hymn by Martin Luther) by J.S. Bach/trans. Walter Damrosch/band adaptation by Anthony O’Toole, and Satiric Dances by Norman Dello Joio. Along with those pieces, the Wind Symphony will be joined by the Juniata College-Community Concert Band to perform Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by John Lennon and Paul McCartney/arr. Michael Sweeney, Australian Up-Country Tune by Percy Aldridge Grainger, and Highlights from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein/ arr. Ted Ingram. The Symphony’s performance of the chorale prelude “A Mighty Fortress Is our God” is a premiere of a brand new work commissioned by the Martin Luther Quincentennial Commission group, a group of 30 colleges (including Juniata) that banded together to invite composer Anthony O’Toole to transcribe this seminal Luther work for wind band. It is part of Juniata’s German Week programming that celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

The Juniata College/Community Concert Band’s performance will take place on Nov. 18, in the Rosenberger Auditorium at 1 p.m. Also directed by Professor Latten the Band’s repertoire includes Chorale and Alleluia by Howard Hanson, The Band Song by William Schuman, Alligator Alley by Michael Daugherty, Bolero by Maurice Ravel/arr. Frank Erickson, Emmanuel by Michel Colombier/arr. Mark Scatterday, and Undertow by John Mackey. Along with those pieces, the Concert Band will be joined by the Juniata College Wind Symphony to perform Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by John Lennon and Paul McCartney/arr. Michael Sweeney, Australian Up-Country Tune by Percy Aldridge Grainger, and Highlights from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein/ arr. Ted Ingram.

The College Orchestra’s performance will take place on Nov. 19, in the Rosenberger Auditorium at 2 p.m.

Ending the series of fall performances will be a percussion performance on Nov. 29 in Rosenberger Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
