HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Kurt Shreiner, executive vice president for Atlantic Capital Bank, in Atlanta, Ga., will spend a week in residence in the Juniata College Department of Accounting, Business and Economics from Monday, March 20 through Friday, March. 24.

Shreiner has been an executive with the bank since its founding in 2006 where he oversees new business ventures as well as specialized lending, payments and technology banking, Treasury services and International products. Shreiner’s residency is made possible through funding from the Carl and Nancy Glaeser Executive-in-Residence Program.

Shreiner will give a public presentation, “Strategy, Stock Cars, Symphonies and Soccer: Musings on a Well-spent Liberal Arts Education,” at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 23, in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus. The talk is free and open to the public.

The talk will focus on how gaining the broad exposure and openness to ideas that a liberal arts education provides is an ideal framework for business executives to make decisions. He will explain how decision-making and strategy relies on diverse experiences and perspectives, paying particular attention to how studying a variety of subjects allows a framework for decision-making to emerge.

Shreiner was one of the four founding members of Atlantic Capital’s management team in 2006. Atlantic Capital is a commercial bank headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., with offices in Georgia, Tennessee and Charlotte, N.C.

At Atlantic Capital, Shreiner is responsible for the bank’s specialty lending businesses, a payments technology group, specialty deposit products, corporate treasury services as well as all operations processing and technology.

Shreiner started his career with Wachovia Bank and Trust in 1985 as a general management trainee in Winston-Salem, N.C. During the early stages of his career, Shreiner held various corporate banking roles in Asheville, N.C., Dallas, Texas and Charlotte, N.C. In 1989 Shreiner joined Wachovia’s international department in Charlotte and moved to Atlanta in 1992 as a corporate client manager.

In 1997, Shreiner moved to London to start and manage Wachovia’s London Branch. The London Branch was responsible for all UK and European corporate client management as well as operating a foreign exchange trading desk. Shreiner returned to the U.S. in 2001 and held various leaderships roles for Wachovia's international businesses including head of international corporate portfolio management and manager of the continental European group.

Shreiner left Wachovia in late 2005 to begin organizational work for Atlantic Capital Bank. At the time of its opening in May 2007, Atlantic Capital Bank was the largest independent capital raise for a de novo banking institution in U.S. history.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va.

As an “executive-in-residence,” Shreiner will be sitting in on classes, offer advice on interviewing, resume preparation and career progression, and work with Juniata’s business professors to hold workshops or one-on-one sessions.

Shreiner’s residency was made possible by an endowment from Carl and Nancy Glaeser. Carl Glaeser is a 1977 graduate of Juniata and Nancy Glaeser is a 1976 graduate. The program has invited Juniata alumni who have achieved uncommon success in the business world to work in residence at the college.
