           HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The German Club, a student-run organization, presents the college’s “German Film Series 2016” with the next showing of the movie “The Tower,” at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science.

            The screenings are free and open to the public. After each film, Judith Benz, associate professor of German, or another Juniata faculty member, will lead a discussion period.

            “The Tower” is a German mini-series that depicts life in East Germany in the 1980s. The film focuses on a suburban family in Dresden and how they survive in a society based on fear, secrecy and duplicity.

After the Oct. 10 film, the series will feature three more films in the series.

--Oct. 25: The 2015 film “Victoria” will be screened. This  film also is part of the International Cinema Festival sponsored by Juniata’s International Studies Program. The film focuses on a young Spanish woman experiencing a wild night  in Berlin. The action-thriller was shot in a single take.

--Nov. 8: The movie “Generation War, Part 1,” tracks the lives of five youg German friends who must handle the troubling moral consequences of life in Hitler’s Germany.

--Nov. 9: The 2012 movie “Generation War, Part 2,” depicts bravery and betrayal in an epic style that shows the day-in, day-out realities of wartime life.

The film series was made possible by a grant from the German Federal Foreign Office’s campaign called, “German: Language of Ideas” for the promotion of German as a foreign language in the United States.
