HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Three Juniata  College graduates and one former faculty member at Juniata, all of whom worked for change at the college, will speak at an “Alumni Advocates Panel” at 7 p.m., Sept. 22, in Sill Boardroom in the von Liebig Center for Science.

            The panel is part of Juniata’s Homecoming Weekend activities. The event is sponsored by the Office of Diversity And Inclusion and is part of the college’s Beyond Tolerance workshop series.

            The event is free and open to the public.

            Each of the alumni speakers will share stories related to initiating change at the college and other organizations. They also will reflect on how Juniata prepared them to become engaged in community development and service.

            Each panelist will also receive an Award of Recognition from the Office of Diversity And Inclusion after the panel concludes.

            The panelists who will speak at Juniata are:

            Brittany Gregory: Gregory, a 2011 Juniata graduate, earned a bachelors degree in sociology at the college. While at Juniata, she was the first president of Plexus and worked as a research assistant and tutor in sociology. She currently is a correctional case management specialist at the Maryland Department of Public Safety.

            Elena Long: Long is a 2006 Juniata graduate, where she earned a bachelors degree in physics. She went on to earn a doctorate in physics in 2012 from Kent State University. she has worked as a doctoral research associate at the University of New Hampshire since 2013. She is the founder of “lgbt + physicists,” and served on an ad hoc committee on LGBT issues for the American Physical Society. She also is vice president of diversity and inclusion for Out in Science, Technology, Engineering And Mathematics.

            Maurice Taylor: Taylor is vice president for academic outreach and engagement at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md. He is a 1972 graduate of Juniata, and went on to earn a master’s degree and doctoral degree in sociology from Bowling Green University. He also earned a law degree from Duke University in 1989. Taylor was a member of Juniata’s board of trustees 1993 to 2014.

            Harriet Kaylor: Kaylor worked in Juniata’s English department from 1959 to 1962. She also taught at Huntington Area High School for 10 years. She is a 1951 graduate of Manchester College, and earned a masters degree and a doctoral degree at Penn State. She has served as a volunteer at Huntington area prisons since 1995.
