HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Sikandar Hayat, professor of history at Quaid-I-Azam University in Pakistan, will speak at Juniata College on "Pakistan and the War on Terrorism," at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, in Neff Lecture Hall in the Von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Hayat will talk about Pakistan's role in the war on terrorism in the post-Sept. 11 political environment. He also will talk about how Pakistan originally supported the Taliban ruling party in Afghanistan and then reversed its policy and opposed the Taliban.

Hayat has taught at Quaid-I-Azam University in Islamabad since 1973. He was appointed as a full professor in 1998. He is an expert on Pakistan's political development and foreign policy, as well as the politics of the United States.

He earned a bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Peshawar University in 1966 and 1968, respectively. He earned a master's degree in political science from the same university in 1968. He also earned a master's degree in political science from Columbia University in 1977. He earned a doctoral degree in history from Quaid-I-Azam University in 1987.

He is the author of "Aspects of the Pakistan Movement" and is currently working on a biography, "Quaid-I-Azam Jinnah: The Founding Father of Pakistan."
