Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College sophomore Jayme Fye (Philipsburg/Philipsburg) has been named the Commonwealth Conference pitcher of the week for the week ending March 31.

Fye pitched two solid outings for Juniata during the week, one as a starter and one in relief. He picked up a win against Elizabethtown, pitching four innings of scoreless relief to get the win. It was only the fourth loss of the season for Elizabethtown, against nine victories. In his first outing of the week, a start against Messiah, Fye surrendered one earned run in 5 2/3 innings but was saddled with the loss as he allowed three unearned runs in the 4-2 Eagle set-back. He struck out five and walked none in the contest.

For the week, Fye allowed four runs, one of them earned, in 9 2/3 innings of work while fanning nine batters and walking none. His earned run average for the week was 0.93.

In his first season for the Blue and Gold since transferring from Slippery Rock, Fye has become the ace of the Eagle staff. He leads the team in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts and is fifth on the squad in ERA, second among the regular starting pitchers. While earning a mark of 4-2 in six appearances, Fye has struck out 24 batters while walking eight. He has claimed two wins as a starter, and has not allowed a run in six innings of relief work. His four wins leads the Commonwealth Conference, and he ranks fourth among conference hurlers in both innings pitched and strikeouts.

With Fye leading the staff, Juniata had compiled a record of 8-9 through seventeen contests. The turbulent spring weather has wreaked havoc with the Eagles' schedule, but Juniata is scheduled to take on Widener in a conference tilt Thursday April 3.
