Student Visions: Art Museum Exhibition Showcases Work

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Some artists have to wait a lifetime for their work to be displayed in an art museum, but Juniata College's fine arts students will have a wide variety of works exhibited at the Juniata College Museum of Art from Thursday, Feb. 20 to March 7.
There is an opening reception at the museum from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20. The reception and continuing exhibition is free and open to the public. Many of the student artists will be in attendance.
The exhibit includes paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics and computer art. The show displays a wide-ranging selection of artworks made by Juniata students during the 2013 spring semester and the 2013-2014 academic year. The works on display were created in art classes supervised by Monika Malewska, associate professor of art, Bethany Benson, associate professor of art, Patricia Howard, assistant professor of art, Louis Reilly, lecturer in art, and Jason Gorcoff, lecturer in art.
All the pieces selected in the show were juried by Juniata's art professors and students in the college's museum studies academic program.
The pieces selected from the show go through several rounds of judging. The fine art faculty selects the best work from their respective classes. The next round of selections are made by Juniata students who are enrolled in the museum studies practicum course, where students learn how to curate art shows and other administrative skills.

"Juniata students in our museum studies program take a greater curatorial role in this exhibition so that the show truly represents the efforts of students and the Department of Art and Art History."
The Juniata students involved in curating the show are: Jerika Jordan, a senior from Lakeway, Texas; Elena Ostock, a senior from Bethlehem, Pa.; Emma Campbell, a sophomore from Cape May Court House, N.J.; Rika Opio, a junior from Pittsburgh, Pa.; Kellie Beck, a sophomore from Whitehall, Pa.; Emily Reinl, a junior from Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and Sarah Elder, a junior from State College, Pa.
The museum is located in historic Carnegie Hall at 17th and Moore streets in Huntingdon.
