WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Juniata College women's volleyball clinched the top seed for the 2011 Landmark Conference Women's Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy, in Saturday action at the second of two Landmark round-robin weekends hosted by Catholic University of America.

Set scores for Juniata were 25-6, 25-16, and 25-19.

Senior middle Amanda Schmidt (Boswell, Pa./North Star) paced the Eagles with seven kills and one block assist, while freshman Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) and junior Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) each had six kills. Kepler also logged three block assists in the match.

Junior Shelby Cassell (Grantham, Pa./Mechanicsburg) ran Juniata's offense to a .451 hitting percentage with 22 assists, and served up a pair of aces on the Mariners.

Freshman Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield Area) turned up a team-high nine digs out of Juniata's tally of 37 digs, while Fuller had seven and Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) had six.

Juniata (18-6, 5-0 Landmark) closes out its Landmark slate on Sunday, Oct. 16, when it hosts Goucher College at 1:30 p.m.
