HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College field hockey checked in at No. 16 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Preseason Poll, which was released Tuesday.

Juniata, coming off last season's 18-5 campaign that saw the Eagles reach the 2nd Round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship, received 227 points in the voting.

Catholic University of America was the only other Landmark Conference school to earn a spot in the poll, placing 18th with 135 points. Other 2011 Juniata opponents to earn a spot in the preseason poll were No. 2 Messiah College and No. 8 The College of New Jersey. Salisbury University, a possible Juniata opponent at the Salisbury University Invitational, appears in the No. 4 spot in the rankings.

Juniata opens its 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, when the Eagles host Bridgewater College (Va.). Start time at Winton Hill Field is 1:00 p.m.
