HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College women's cross country team returns three runners who finished among the top 10 in the 2010 Landmark Conference Cross Country Championship, and the Eagles were shown a corresponding level of respect by the Landmark's coaches and sports information directors when the annual preseason poll was unveiled Thursday.

Juniata was picked to finish first in the conference this season, after running to a third-place finish in the 2010 meet. The Eagles tallied 71 points in the poll, narrowly edging second-place and defending Landmark champion Susquehanna University with 70 points.

The University of Scranton was third with 63 points, followed by Moravian College with 48 points.

Goucher College (45 points), Catholic University of America (34 points), United States Merchant Marine Academy (18 points) and Drew University (15 points).

The Eagles are paced by junior Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township), who finished seventh in last year's Landmark meet with a time of 24:16.50. Sophomore Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) was ninth in the 2010 Landmark run in a time of 24:23.30, while senior Jessica Koenig (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) was 10th in a time of 24:28.20.

Juniata opens its 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, when it competes at the Bucknell Opener in Lewisburg, Pa.
