HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Jamie Washington, a nationally known speaker, consultant and trainer on diversity, spirituality and community development issues, will moderate a workshop, "Leadership and Diversity in the 21st Century," at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18 in the Sill Board Room in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.

The workshop is free and open to the public. Washington also will hold a workshop for faculty on recruitment and retention plans at 3 p.m., Nov. 18.

Washington is the president and founder of the Washington Consulting Group, a multicultural organizational development firm based in Baltimore, Md. Washington started his career in higher education, serving most recently as the assistant vice president for student affairs at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

In addition, Washington worked at the Baltimore County campus as an instructor in sociology, American studies and education, and as an assistant professor of women's studies.

He earned a bachelor's degree in therapeutic relations and music from Slippery Rock University and went on to earn a master's degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He earned a doctorate in college student development from the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. and completed in 2004 a master of divinity degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
