HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Three Juniata College student-athletes were among those recognized by the Landmark Conference with weekly honors, for their performances last week.

Junior Rachel Nagy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) was honored as the Landmark's Softball Player of the Week, after leading Juniata to a 4-2 record last week on the diamond. She knocked out 11 hits for the week with a .524 batting average, driving in 10 of Juniata's 30 runs and scoring five more. In a doubleheader sweep of the University of Scranton, she knocked out six hits, drove in five, and scored a pair of runs.

Juniata softball currently holds a 15-7 overall record, 4-2 in the Landmark Conference, and is currently in fourth place in the conference standings. The Eagles will travel to Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, and then face the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Friday in Kings Point, N.Y.

Senior Katie Tavenner (Oaks, Pa./Spring-Ford) was named the Landmark's Field Athlete of the Week, after placing first in two events at the 2009 Juniata Quad. Tavenner won the hammer with a personal best throw of 117-11, and then won the discus with a mark of 110-0. Both marks rank among the top three in the Landmark Conference this season. She then posted a third-place finish in the shot put, with a throw of 30-11 1/4.

The Juniata track and field teams will compete at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic this Friday and Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa.

Junior Jarrad Silver (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) earned Landmark Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, after posting two singles wins and two doubles wins while leading the Eagles to a 2-0 week.

Silver downed Goucher's Michael Brooks at no. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and then teamed with Arnab Chakrabarti (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) to post a 9-8 (7-5) win at no. 1 doubles to lead the Eagles to a 9-0 win over the Gophers. Earlier in the week, he had a 6-0, retired, win at no. 1 singles against Penn State Harrisburg, and again teamed with Chakrabarti for a doubles victory.

The win over Goucher was Juniata's first Landmark win of the season and improved the Eagles' overall record to 7-5, the program's best record since a 13-5 mark in 2005-06.
