FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Junior catcher Greg Hoffman (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) went 3-for-5 with four runs batted in while senior second baseman Kevin Small (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) belted a four-run home run to lead Juniata College to a 14-8 win over Northwestern College (Minn.), in Juniata's spring break baseball opener in Fort Pierce, Fla.

The win was the first game in a season-opening doubleheader for Juniata.

After the two teams traded runs in the opening inning, a five-run uprising in the second vaulted Juniata into a 6-1 lead. A pair of walks to open the frame led to one run on a Matt Sullivan (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) RBI single. Following a walk issued to senior Adam Spadafora (Asbury, N.J./Pennington School), Small cleared the bases with Juniata's first round tripper of the season.

A four-run sixth inning for Juniata helped clinch the win, keyed by Hoffman's two-out three-run triple.

Junior Tyler Clifford (Homer City, Pa./Homer City) fanned six over five complete innings of work, while scattering six hits.

Juniata pounded 10 hits off of three different Northwestern pitchers, who in turn yielded 10 bases on balls.
