HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A three-goal outburst by Juniata College, its highest goal tally since the season opener, lifted the Eagle field hockey squad to a 3-2 victory over York College of Pennsylvania, Tuesday afternoon on Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon, Pa.

The win allowed Juniata (2-6, 0-0 Landmark) to snap its six-game losing streak, and post a win in its home opener after a frustrating stretch of seven-straight road games. The three goals by the Eagles is the most in a single game this season since a 6-0 win over Arcadia University in the season opener on August 30.

Freshman Brittany Kauffman (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) got Juniata on the scoreboard just 48 seconds into the contest, with an unassisted score for her third goal of the season.

York (2-6) responded midway through the first half, when April McFarland took a pass for Joan Shultis on the right side and slipped it into the Juniata cage to knot the game at 1-1.

Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) put Juniata back in the lead just two minutes and 45 seconds into the second half, outracing the York defenders with a sprint up the middle and finishing with a blast past York goalie Claire Rekitzke. Price added what turned out to be a needed insurance goal with 17:25 left in the game, scoring her second of the day off an assist from Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield).

York threatened to spoil the win with a counterattack in the waning minutes, eventually producing McFarland's second goal off a free-for-all in front of Juniata goalie Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) with just 10 seconds remaining.

Senior Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) played the first 67 minutes in the Eagle cage, recording three saves while allowing one goal. Spratt came into the game with barely over three minutes remaining in the contest, and did not record a save.

Rekitzke finished the afternoon with six saves while allowing three goals over 70 minutes of play.

Juniata outshot York 14-8, and had a slim 11-10 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.

The Eagles have a week off to prepare for Delaware Valley College, who will visit Winton Hill Field on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 4:30 p.m.
