HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Tax time is quickly approaching and the accounting students of Juniata College, certified by the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, will be offering free tax preparation for low-income seniors starting this week and running through April 15.

Any interested citizens should call (814) 641-3661 to schedule an appointment for the service.

The VITA program is an IRS service that offers free help for people who cannot afford professional assistance, such as low-income workers and senior citizens.

Those interested in the service should bring their prior year's tax return, current tax forms, and any W-2's, 1099's, etc. A brief interview is required and all information will remain confidential.

People who are self-employed, own rental real estate or have incurred capital gains are advised to meet with a professional tax preparer, as such issues are beyond the scope of the VITA program.
