HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata Wind Symphony, featuring guest artist Mark Bowling, principal trombonist for the U.S. Army Field Band, will perform a varied concert of classical music at Juniata College at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 13, in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.

Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children under 18 and Juniata students with a valid ID card.

The concert will open with Bowling, who will perform "Morceau Symphonique," by Alexandre Guilmant. The piece is a favorite of many trombone soloists. Bowling is a master sergeant in the Army. He earned a bachelor's degree from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and earned a master's degree in music from Arizona State University.

The Wind Symphony will play "as the scent of spring rain," by contemporary composer Jonathan Newman. The composition is based on a poem by Leah Goldberg. The ensemble also will play "Eternal Father Strong to Save."

Juniata student Amy Breitinger, a junior from White Oak, Pa., will be featured on clarinet in the next segment playing "Concertino Op. 26," by Carl Maria von Weber. Next, the ensemble will play selections from a variety of film scores by John Williams in the selection "Out of This World." Williams is noted for his collaborations with movie directors George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. He composed the scores for "Star Wars," "Jaws," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "E.T."

The ensemble will perform "Chaconne," a composition by Juniata Valley High School Band Director Dan Klingbeil, followed by a performance of "Rhosymedre," by British composer Ralph Vaughn Williams. "Alligator Alley," a song by Michael Daugherty, will complete the concert by the full ensemble.

The Juniata Saxophone Quartet will make a special appearance. The quartet is alto saxophonists Dwight Bard, a senior from Warfordsburg, Pa., and Andy Fornadel, a senior from Columbia, Md.; tenor saxophonist Logan Barkman, a senior from Roaring Spring, Pa.; and baritone saxophonist Josh Fishel, a senior from Spring Grove, Pa. The group is led by David Lewis, an instructor in music at Juniata.
