WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Juniata College men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Washington and Jefferson College Invitational on in Washington, Pa., on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5.

The Juniata women finished 13th out of 15 teams as they scored 13 points. Five women contributed to the scoring for Juniata, led by freshman Courtney DeGemmis (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton), whose fourth place finish in the 400m was the top finish of any Juniata woman for the weekend. Her time of 1:03.07 was a season-best time for her. In the 4x100m relay, DeGemmis teamed with junior Kelsey Buffenmyer (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal), sophomore Melissa Johnson (Colonia, N.J./John F. Kennedy), and senior Caitlin Hinson (Florence, S.C./Danville) to take sixth with a time of 51.63. DeGemmis, Hinson, and Johnson were then joined by sophomore Cassie Majocha (Upper Burrell, Pa./Burell) to take fifth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:19.85. Between those three events, DeGemmis' 6.75 points accounted for over half of the team's total.

Melissa Johnson was the only other woman to score in an individual event, as she took eighth in the 200m race with a time of 27.67.

The Juniata men finished 7th out of 14 teams as they scored 42 points. Eight men scored for Juniata in nine individual events. Leading the scoring for Juniata was senior Jason Hoover (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine), who won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:56.01 to claim the only victory of the day for Juniata. He was followed to the finish six seconds later by his brother, Eric Hoover (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine), in second place with a time of 10:02.29. The 18 points earned by the Hoovers in the steeplechase accounted for nearly half of the team's points.

Sophomore TJ Breya (McClure, Pa./East Juniata) was the second leading scorer for the Juniata men, as he produced scoring efforts in both hurdle races. He took 3rd in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.94 seconds and 6th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.53 seconds.

Sophomore Jeremy Boback (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) threw a three inch personal best in the hammer of 110-6 that improved on his fifth place all-time ranking for Juniata in this event.
