FT. PIERCE, Fla. - The Juniata College baseball team wrapped up its 2008 spring trip with a 4-3 loss to LaRoche College, Friday morning in Ft. Pierce, Fla. After LaRoche scored two runs in the first inning, Juniata tied the game in the third when Dan Kauffman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) belted a two-run home run, also scoring Kevin Small (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) who reached on a hit-by-pitch. LaRoche took a 3-2 lead in the fifth after a runner scored on a wild pitch. The Eagles again tied the game in the seventh, as Adam Spadafora (Asbury, N.J./Pennington School) crossed on a bases-loaded grounder to third, when the LaRoche third baseman threw the ball wide toward left field on the throw to first. LaRoche pulled out the win in the bottom of the seventh, when the game-winning run cross on a double. Sophomore righthander Tyler Clifford (Homer City, Pa./Homer City) pitched seven complete innings and was charge with the loss, while John Love (Loysburg, Pa./Northern Bedford) came on in the eighth. Kauffman went 1-for-1 in the game with four walks. Greg Hoffman (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) went 2-for-5 for the Eagles, who collected seven hits on the afternoon. Juniata returns to action on Wednesday when it faces Mt. Aloysius College. -30-
