BALTIMORE - Juniata College posted a record-setting 17th win, and locked up the no. 2 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference tournament, in a 3-1 win over Goucher College, in field hockey action Saturday afternoon in Baltimore. With the victory, Juniata (17-2, 5-1 Landmark) surpassed the previous record of 16 wins set during the 2006 campaign. The 13th-ranked Eagles will host Drew University in a Landmark Conference Field Hockey Tournament semifinal on Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Huntingdon. Game time has been tentatively set for 3:30 p.m. on Winton Hill Field. "It's exciting for us to secure a spot in the tournament and host a conference semifinal on our own field,\" said Juniata head coach Caroline Gillich. "This team has set a new standard for Juniata field hockey, and will continue to do so in the championships.\" Kim Wagner (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) scored Juniata's first two goals of the game, both unassisted and late in the first half. Wagner notched her first score of the game with just 13:08 remaining in the opening frame, and expanded the Eagle lead to 2-0 with 10:05 left in the period. Goucher cut the lead to 2-1 with just 2:15 left before the intermission, on a goal by Katie Skojec. Michelle Campbell (Annville, Pa./Northern Lebanon) gave Juniata an insurance goal with 26:52 left in the second half, putting the Eagles in front 3-1. Goalie Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) played the first half in the Juniata cage, making five saves. Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) and Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) split the goaltending duties in the second half, but neither was forced to make a save. Goucher's Aline Haddad recorded 11 saves in the Gopher goal. Juniata outshot Goucher 20-7, and held a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners.
