READING, Pa. - Three different players tallied goals and Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) played 70 minutes of shutout field hockey in goal, to help lead 13th-ranked Juniata College to a 3-0 win over Alvernia College, Tuesday afternoon in Reading, Pa. Freshman Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) got the Eagles (14-2, 4-1 Landmark) on the scoreboard early, scoring just 5:04 into the game. Price took a feed from Leslie Stern (Felton, Pa./Red Lion), and put a shot high into the cage and past Alvernia goalie Audrey Hoffman. Kim Wagner (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) expanded the lead to 2-0 with just 24 seconds left in the first half, when she scored her team-leading 17th goal of the season. Erin Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with her third goal of the season, coming just 3:54 into the second half. Juniata was outshot by the Crusaders 12-9, with Funk finishing the game with three saves. Amanda Wimer (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) and Heather Hassinger (Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg) each were credited with one defensive save. Hoffman finished the game with three saves in the Alvernia cage. Each team had nine penalty corner opportunities, with the Eagles holding a 7-1 advantage in corners in the second half alone. The win gives Juniata its fourth campaign in the last five seasons with at least 14 wins, to go with its fifth 13-win season in the last six. The Eagles will go after win number 15 on Thursday, Oct. 18, when they face Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m. -30-
