HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College field hockey squad extended its winning streak to seven game with a 3-0 win over Moravian College, in Saturday\'s Landmark Conference opener for both teams at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon. All three Juniata goals were scored in the first half. Freshman Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) put Juniata on the scoreboard just over 12 minutes into the game with her goal off an assist from Heather Hassinger (Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg). Senior Kim Wagner (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season just two minutes later, an unassisted effort with 20:39 left in the opening half. Junior Erin Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) added an insurance goal with 4:22 left before halftime, with an assist to Price. Juniata scored those three goals off a 23-5 advantage in shots taken during the game, most of those generated by Eagle takeaways. \"Moravian tends to be a big-hitting squad, and we were successful at dropping off of them at the right times to pick up interceptions. That allowed us to get back into our passing game, and take advantage of those interceptions,\" said Juniata head coach Caroline Gillich. \"We didn\'t get caught up in playing their game, but we played our game for all 70 minutes.\" In addition to outshooting Moravian, Juniata (7-1, 1-0 Landmark) had an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners. Junior Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) played all 70 minutes in the Eagle goal and was credited with one save on the afternoon. Funk has not allowed a goal in her last 311 minutes played, going back to the win over Elizabethtown College on September 11. Moravian goalie Maura Acox made a pair of saves while getting charged with all three Juniata goals. The Eagles return to action on Thursday, Sept. 27, when they head Doylestown, Pa., to face Delaware Valley College in a non-conference match-up. -30-
