HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Jess Winemiller (Dallastown/York) scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Juniata College women\'s basketball team to an 81-69 victory over Moravian College in Commonwealth Conference action Saturday evening. Winemiller was 10-of-14 from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line as Juniata (12-7, 3-5 Commonwealth) shot 50 percent from the field in the game and 90 percent from the foul line to snap a two-game conference losing streak. Juniata took control of the game in the latter stages of the first half. After a lay-up from Moravian\'s Kirsty Stearns made the score 24-19 in favor of Juniata, the Eagles proceeded to put together a 17-5 run over the next six minutes to take a commanding 41-24 edge with 1:51 left in the half. A basket and three pointer from Courtney Callas (Freeport/Sarver) punctuated Juniata\'s run and the Eagles eventually took a 13-point lead into the locker room. Moravian (10-8, 4-4 Commonwealth) was never able to put together a run in the second stanza as the lead remained in double figures for nearly the entire half. Following a Jenny Hackleman lay-up and a free throw from Katie Rizman, Moravian trailed just 58-48 at the 9:39 mark, but the Eagles answered with a three from Ali Meckey (Bishop Carroll/Ebensburg) and a hoop from Winemiller to quickly push the lead back to 15. The Greyhounds got within eight in the final minute, but Juniata put the game away at the foul line as the Blue and Gold were 11-of-12 from the charity stripe in the second half. Kelly Applegate led Moravian with 15 points in the game. Both teams had four players score in double figures, and Moravian shot 49 percent from the field to Juniata\'s 50. But the Greyhounds committed 26 turnovers in the game, while hitting just 2-of-9 shots from three-point range. Winemiller\'s 27-point effort was her first 20-point game of the season, and bested her previous career high of 26 points. Meckey, Kelly Ashcraft (State College/Bellefonte) and Claudia McDowell (Juniata Valley/Alexandria) each added 11 points for Juniata. Ashcraft led all players with 11 rebounds, while McDowell was tops with five assists. Applegate\'s 15 points came on 6-of-11 shooting. Stearns and Katie Rizman each had 11 for the Greyhounds while Kate Harrison chipped in with 10. Hackleman grabbed nine rebounds to lead the team and she matched Amanda Brown with a team-high three assists. Juniata returns to action Tuesday night when the Eagles host conference leader Messiah College. ###
