HUNTINGDON, Pa. - In a match-up of two of the top three teams from the MAC last season, the Juniata College women\'s swimming team came out on the short end of some tight races as the University of Scranton dealt the Eagles a 112-87 set-back in MAC dual-meet action on Saturday. Juniata is now 3-4 on the season and 2-3 in MAC action, while the Royals improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The meet appeared slightly lopsided the Scranton earning first-place finishes in eight of the 11 individual events, but nearly all of those races involved tight finishes with Juniata earning second-place efforts in each race. Juniata did managed top finishes on three of the events on the day. Highlighting the wins was Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) claimed a top effort in the 200 backstroke. She topped the defending conference champion by swimming a time of 2:31.64. Also earning first-place efforts on the day were Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) in the 800 freestyle, and Carlie Zoubek (Paul IV/Burke, Va.) 200 breaststroke. Adding to the scoring for the Eagles were those second-place finishes. Rachel Almy (Foxcroft Academy/Charleston, Maine) got it started with a second-place effort in the 200 freestyle. Betsy Rogers (Castilleja/San Mateo, Calif.) followed with a second-place swim in the 50 freestyle, coming home just .23 behind the winner. Kelly Serfling (Urbana/Frederick, Md.) posted a second-place finish for the Eagles in the 200 individual medley, and then that was followed up by Zoubek posting a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly. Brough also contributed four points with a runner-up finish as she was second in the 400 freestyle, and then in the final individual event, Alison Banks (Fairfax/Fairfax, Va.) was second behind Zoubek in the 200 breaststroke. Juniata then closed the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Kristin Musselman (Central Columbia/Bloomsburg), Sutherland, Rogers and Collin Thompson (Altoona/Altoona) touched the wall first in a time of 2:01.65. Juniata will return to action Dec. 12 as the Eagles compete at the two-day Franklin & Marshall Invitational. ###
