Juniata 2, Lycoming 1 (OT) HUNTINGDON, Pa. ? Jordan McGowan (Greenwood/Millerstown) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning ?golden goal? with just six minutes remaining in overtime to propel the Juniata College men?s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Lycoming Wednesday evening. The win moved Juniata to 3-2 on the season while Lycoming is now 1-2-1. The Eagles were seconds away from winning the game in regulation but a goal with five seconds left in the second half sent the game into overtime. Neither team was able to get on the board during the first 10-minute sudden death session, but in the 105th minute McGowan beat Warriors keeper Matt Klipp to a loose ball in the box and slotted it into the far corner for the game winner. It was McGowan who gave Juniata the early lead in the match when he went up and headed home a Mark Turkewitz (Dallastown/York) cross in the 10th minute to give Juniata a 1-0 advantage. Mike Gwiazdowski (Central York/York) also earned an assist on the goal. Juniata continued to create chances as the Eagles outshot the visitors 11-7 in the first half, and forced Klipp into making four saves. The visitors raised the intensity in the second half as they began peppering Juniata keeper Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) with shots. Guthridge made five of his eight saves in the second half as he tried to keep Lycoming off the scoreboard. Juniata also created some strong chances to extend its lead, most notably in the 60th minute when a Gwiazdowski header sailed just wide of the post. The missed chances nearly came back to haunt the Eagles as Lycoming?s push for the equalizer came to fruition with just five seconds left in the match. Lycoming?s seventh corner kick of the half led to a scramble in the box and Joe Thomas knocked the ball into the net to send the match into overtime. Klipp finished the match with five saves for the visitors, who finished with a 24-21 edge in shots. Juniata will get back in action Saturday when they travel to take on Carnegie Mellon in an 8 p.m. match. ###
