Huntingdon, PA ? Brandy Workinger (Dallastown/Dallastown), a junior outside hitter on the women's volleyball team at Juniata College was named to the 2000 Verizon/CoSIDA College Division All-District II Academic First Team. It is the first time in her career that she has received the honor and she will now be placed on the national College Division Academic All-America ballot. The GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America team is scheduled to be announced on December 12. The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter of significant reserve.

Workinger, a three-time Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week selection as well as an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Week this fall, leads the Eagles with a school single-season record 681 kills. She is averaging 4.93 kills per game this year and at the same time owns an impressive .344 hitting percentage. Workinger has amassed 48 aces, a team-best 638 digs and 82 total blocks (26 solo) this season. She was named the Juniata College female Athlete of the Month for October after going through the 31-day stretch averaging 5.04 kills, 4.91 digs, 0.39 aces and 0.65 blocks per game. This fall, Workinger has been named to the all-tournament teams at the Mercyhurst, Emory, ASICS (Juniata), Wellesley, Kutztown and Guisler (Juniata) invitationals. She is also a three-time member of the AVCA's 30-kill club this year, having posted 30 or more terminations in a match three times.

Juniata, ranked fifth in the latest AVCA Division III poll, will take its 32-8 record into the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals this weekend. The Eagles host Cortland State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. The winner of the match will advance to the NCAA Division III semifinals/finals the weekend of December 1-2 at a site to be determined. Juniata is in the midst of its Division III record 20th trip through the national playoff scene.
