HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Justin Schultz, a sophomore from Economy, Pa. and the son of Paula and the late Eric Schultz, has been chosen to receive the prestigious Andrew Mutch Scholarship from the St. Andrews Society of Philadelphia.

Only five students from 19 participating colleges and universities in and around Philadelphia and Pennsylvania are selected to attend one of the five universities in Scotland participating in the program for one year. Schultz is the 17th Juniata College student to receive this prestigious award since Juniata's affiliation with the program in 1979. He will study at the University of Edinburgh during his junior year, the 2006-07 academic year.

To be considered for the scholarship, a student must first be in the top fifth of the sophomore class. The candidate then completes an application and interviews with the president, provost, dean of international programs, international education committee, and the scholarship committee From these interviews, each institution selects one candidate who then travels to Philadelphia to compete for one of the five scholarships.

Schultz, who is studying physics and mathematics at Juniata, will begin his research career this summer at the college, working on quantum laser optics with Jamie White, associate professor of physics.
He is a member of Juniata's Concert Choir and has accompanied the ensemble on two international concert tours to Brazil in 2005 and Mexico in 2006. He also is a member of the Society of Physics Students, All Ways of Loving, and serves as 2005-2006 president of The Null Set, Juniata's student club for mathematics.
