Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College sophomore baseball player Steven Wilk (Blairsville/Hollidaysburg has been selected as the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week for his late-game heroics for the Eagles this past week. In his first season with Juniata, it marks the first conference honor that Wilk has received and he becomes the fourth member of the Juniata baseball team to claim a weekly conference honor this season.

Wilk made a major impact in Juniata's only game of the week as he drilled a game-winning home run to help Juniata defeat Commonwealth Conference foe Messiah. With Juniata trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Wilk delivered a two-out, two-run home run to end the game and give Juniata the win. It was his first collegiate home run, and the first walk-off hit for Juniata this season. He also had a double in the game as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Wilk had two of Juniata's five total hits in the contest.

After transferring from Allegheny College following his freshman season Wilk has earned the position as the Eagles' starting third baseman. He ranks second on the team with a .362 batting average as he has knocked out 17 hits in 47 at-bats. He has provided 17 runs scored for the Blue and Gold while also driving in 11 runs. He has four extra base hits on the season, and boasts a .511 slugging percentage. His on-base percentage of .492 is tops on the team as he has drawn 10 walks to go with his 17 hits. Wilk has hit safely in 10 of the 14 games in which he has been in the starting lineup, and has produced six multi-hit games on the year. He has reached base safely in 15 of the 18 games in which he has appeared on the season.

With Wilk providing a steady offensive presence Juniata has earned a record of 13-7-1 through its first 21 games. After his efforts helped earn the win over Messiah, the Eagles improved to 7-2-1 in conference play, which has the Eagles are part of a three-way tie atop the Commonwealth standings.
