Sophomore center Kelly Steinbeiser (Altoona/Altoona), a member of the Juniata College women's basketball team, was picked as the Commonwealth Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the stretch of December 4 through December 10. It marked the first time this winter that an Eagle performer earned the conference honor.

Steinbeiser has certainly been on a roll as of late, scoring in double figures in her past four games. This past week, she tallied a career-best 23 points, 10 rebounds, and one steal in a tough, 73-70 loss at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday. On Friday, in a 75-61 victory over Dickinson in Memorial Gymnasium, Steinbeiser matched her personal-high with 23 points. She also had eight rebounds, two blocked shots, one assist and one steal versus the Red Devils. For the past seven-day stretch, Steinbeiser shot .679 from the floor (19 of 28), and she averaged 23.0 points and nine rebounds per contest. In addition, the 6-0 athlete was two of two from three-point land and six of six from the foul line.

Over her past four games, she has averaged 19.5 points and 10.3 rebounds a game, while shooting .527 (29 of 55) from the floor and .900 (18 of 20) at the charity stripe.

Heading into this week of competition, Steinbeiser ranked second in the Commonwealth in free throw percentage (.909), fourth in field goal percentage (.507), tied for fourth in blocked shots an outing (1.0), sixth in the rebounds per game (7.7) and seventh in scoring average (14.3). Steinbeiser currently ranks first in the Juniata camp in scoring average, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, total rebounds (54) and blocked shot average.

The Eagles are 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Commonwealth to date. Juniata travels to Grove City on Tuesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. game with the Lady Wolverines. It will be the final contest for the blue and gold hoopers before the semester break.
