Bridgewater, Va. ? The string of tight, heartbreaking set-backs continued for the Juniata College field hockey team on Sunday as the Eagles dropped a 1-0 decision in double overtime to Bridgewater in Bridgewater, Va. The Eagles fall to 8-9 with the loss, while the home team raised its record to 7-8.

The match marked the fourth consecutive match in which the Eagles have suffered a one-goal loss, all of which have come in either overtime or in penalty strokes.

On this day, Juniata finished with 15 shots, and forced nine saves from Bridgewater goalkeeper Frankee Waldron but were unable to find the back of the cage.

Juniata keeper Andrea Way (Fair Haven Union/Fair Haven, Vt.) made 14 stops in goal for the Eagles, before the home team broke the scoreless tie in the 86th minute of action, just 18 seconds into the second overtime. Mandy Nixon scored an unassisted goal to earn the win.

The teams combined for 31 shots during regulation, but were both unable to break into the scoring column. The Eagles then out-shot the home team 3-1 in the first overtime session but could not end the match with a sudden-death score.

Juniata will play its final conference match of the season on Tuesday with a match at Elizabethtown. The match will be to capture the final spot in the Commonwealth Conference postseason, as both Juniata and Elizabethtown are currently tied for the fourth spot with identical 3-3 records.
