Juniata 3, Albright 0


Reading, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s volleyball team used a dominant service attack to capture its 11th win of the season as the Eagles swept past Albright College 3-0 in Reading Tuesday night. The victory improved Juniata?s record to 11-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference action, while the home team fell to 8-10 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Juniata piled up 17 aces in the three-game match earning the win by game scores of 30-9, 30-12, 30-16.

Abby Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) paced the team with eight aces, just one shy of her career-high which she set last season in a victory over Albright. Jessica Ritchey (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) and Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) each finished with two aces.

Offensively freshman Erin Albert (Philipsburg-Osceola/Philipsburg) paced the team with 10 kills. It was the first double-digit kill performance of her collegiate career. Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) added eight finishes and Aly Pompeani (Hopewell/Aliquippa) contributed seven.

Defensively Schatz recorded five blocks to pace the team, with Kines adding three. Amber Thomas (Conestoga Valley/Ephrata) had a team-high eight digs with Kelly Popernik (Bartlett/Bartlett, Ill.) producing seven digs.

Juniata gets back in action on Saturday when the Eagles take a road trip to New Jersey where they will take on Rutgers-Newark at 2 pm and Princeton University at 7 pm.
