Juniata 6, Mount Aloysius 1

Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s soccer team got a hat trick from freshman Fred McNeal (Troy/Towanda) to help propel Juniata to a 6-1 victory over Mount Aloysius in Huntingdon Thursday afternoon. Juniata improved to 2-5 with the victory while the visitors dropped to 0-7.

McNeal scored the first goal to get the Eagles on the scoreboard mid-way through the first half. He collected a lose ball in the box and knocked it past the Mount Aloysius keeper.

Despite continuous pressure throughout the first half, the Eagles were unable to add to its lead. The Eagles fired off 33 shots in the first 45 minutes, but Mount Aloysius keeper Brady Griesheimer made several strong saves to keep his team in the match.

Juniata keeper Tim Penrod (Moravia/Moravia, N.Y.) made two saves in the first half to keep Juniata?s lead intact.

After 10 more scoreless minutes in the second half the Eagles offense began to consistently find the back of the net. Jeff Gehring (Exeter Township/Reading) beat Griesheimer in a one-on-one situation after Robert Bowser (Dallastown/York) played a through ball into him. McNeal added his second goal eight minutes later when he collected a pass from Kenneth Wiles (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck, N.Y.) and blasted it into the back of the net.

Freshman Steve Crow (Middletown/Middletown) added Juniata?s fourth tally when a deflected shot landed at his feet in the box and he knocked it into the net in the 68th minute.

Mount Aloysius answered that score with its lone goal of the game, to cut the lead to three. On its first, and only, corner kick of the match Jayme Blough headed home the corner from Adam Lloyd to give the visitors their lone goal.

Juniata then countered with its two final goals, both of which came in the final minute of play. McNeal finished off his third goal breaking into the box after passes from Paul Pilloy (Catholic University of Lille/Crottes-En-Pitherverais) and Thomas Reddan (Saint Mary?s/Glen Cove, N.Y.). Josh Cady (Malvern Prep./Frazer) added the final tally as he volleyed home a cross from Steve Crow.

Griesheimer made several more tough saves for the visitors in the second half, keeping Juniata from adding to the lead. The Mount Aloysius keeper finished with 28 saves in the match.

Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) played the second half in goal for Juniata.

Juniata continues its non-conference schedule this Saturday with a road match at Lincoln University.
