Reading, Pa.? When the Juniata College women?s tennis team has earned victories in 2005, it has done so in resounding fashion, and that was once again the case on Saturday as the Eagles posted a 9-0 sweep of Albright College in a Commonwealth Conference match in reading. The victory improved Juniata to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Commonwealth, while Albright fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

Each of Juniata?s four wins in 2005 have come by 9-0 scores. On this day, Juniata needed a couple of comeback efforts to claim the sweep. Ye Kyung Kwon (Cumberland Valley/Enola) rallied from a one set deficit and won a tight third-set tie breaker to earn her win at fourth singles. Kwon rallied to claim a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) win at the fourth singles spot. Also coming from behind and winning in a tie breaker was Sarah Roby (Red Land/Lewisberry) who earned a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (10-7) win at the fifth singles position.

It was much smoother sailing for the remainder of the singles matches. Ashley Andrews (Altoona/Altoona) claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles for the Eagles, while Caroline Weisser (York Suburban/York) swept her second singles match by a 6-0, 6-0 score. Molly Coursey (Westminster/Hanover) claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win at fourth singles and Megan Carpenter (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) rolled at sixth singles by a 6-1, 6-3 score.

The Eagles also controlled the play in doubles as Andrews and Weisser teamed for an 8-3 win at first doubles. Kwon and Coursey battled to a tough 8-5 win in second doubles and Carpenter and Roby secured the sweep with an 8-3 third doubles victory.

Juniata gets another shot at a conference opponent on Wednesday when the Eagles host Lebanon Valley.
