Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) has been named the Commonwealth Conference volleyball player of the week for helping Juniata to a pair of victories this past week. It marks the second time this season that Kines has earned a conference honor, the fourth time a Juniata player has captured the player of the week award from the conference office.

Kines put together an efficient offensive week to earn victories over conference foe Elizabethtown, and Division II opponent Indiana (Pa.). Against Indiana Kines pounded 21 killsâ??the second-highest total of her careerâ??on 34 attacks with no errors for a .618 hitting percentage in the match. She added two blocks and an ace in the victory. Earlier in the week she knocked out six kills in two games with a .667 hitting percentage in a 3-0 conference win over Elizabethtown. Kines also brought up five digs with a block and an ace in the win. For the week she piled up 27 kills on 43 attacks, with no hitting errors. Her hitting percentage for the week was a sparkling .628.

After being named the AVCA Mid-Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year, Kines has become a go-to player for Juniata this season. The sophomore leads the Eagles in kills with 246 and has been extremely efficient with a hitting percentage of .465. In the statistics report released October 10th, Kines' .446 hitting percentage ranked second in NCAA Division III. She also leads Juniata in blocks with 60, and has 28 aces which ranks third on the team. She has also contributed 68 digs defensively for the Blue and Gold.

Juniata is off to another strong start as the Eagles raced to a 20-3 record through their first 23 games. Juniata was ranked third in the most recent AVCA/CSTV Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll, and have earned two victories over opponents ranked in the top-25. The Eagles will look to go 6-0 in Commonwealth Conference play when they host Widener Wednesday night.
