Grantham, Pa. ? The Juniata women?s volleyball team improved to 5-0 in Commonwealth Conference play on the strength of a 3-0 victory over Elizabethtown in Grantham Tuesday night.

The Eagles improved their overall record to 19-3 and stretched their conference winning streak to 269 matches by topping the Blue Jays 30-11, 30-22, 30-25. Elizabethtown fell to 17-6 overall and 3-2 in Commonwealth Conference play.

The Eagles displayed a balanced offensive assault. Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) and Katie Laucks (West York/York) each finished with 12 kills on the match. Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) added eight finishes for Juniata.

It was a pair of Eagle freshman handling the defensive duties as Kelly Popernik (Bartlett/Bartlett, Il.) posted a team-high 14 digs. Another freshman Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) added 13 digs with Abby Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) contributing eight.

The Eagles will hit the road on Saturday to take on Division II opponent Indiana University (Pa.).
