Juniata 2, Washington and Lee 0

Huntingdon, Pa. ? For the second time this season the Juniata College field hockey team has put together a program-best five-game winning streak. This time the Eagles reached the mark courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Washington and Lee University in Huntingdon Sunday afternoon. The win brought Juniata?s record to 10-1, while Washington and Lee dropped to 4-6.

After a scoreless first half Kim Wagner broke the 0-0 tie with her 11th goal of the season with 15 minutes gone in the second half. The goal was the fourth of the week for Wagner and it gave Juniata a lead it would not relinquish.

The game featured solid defense on both sides, with both teams finishing with five shots apiece. Juniata keeper Melonie Sappe? (Dallas/Shavertown) stopped two shots to earn her fifth shutout of the season, and her fourth in Juniata?s last five games.

Generals? keeper Courtney Harrison also made two saves for the visitors as she kept Washington and Lee in the match.

Juniata then added an insurance goal with 24 seconds remaining as Grace McCluskey (West Perry/Elliotsburg) knocked in a goal to make it 2-0 Juniata. Michelle Campbell (Northern Lebanon/Annville) assisted on the goal which was McCluskey?s third of the season.

Juniata will look to establish a program record with its sixth-straight win when the Eagles play at Frostburg State on Tuesday.
