Ashland, Ohio ? After earning the 1,000th victory in the history of the volleyball program on Friday night, Juniata added two more victories to the total with a pair of 3-0 triumphs on Saturday in Ashland, Ohio. Juniata topped West Virginia Wesleyan by game scores of 30-18, 30-19, 30-27 in the opening match on Saturday, then topped Edinboro 30-27, 30-28 and 30-24. The victories improved Juniata to 7-1 on the season.

Sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) continued her strong early-season play as she paced the Eagles with 13 kills against West Virginia Wesleyan and another 19 finishes against Edinboro. She also contributed to the Eagle defense with eight blocks on the day.

Juniata?s balanced offense continued throughout the day. Amy Ressler (Hempfield/East Petersburg) notched seven finishes while setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) called her own number to the tune of eight kills against West Virginia Wesleyan. Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) notched 14 digs defensively for the Eagles, while Abby Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) added 11 digs of her own. Katie Laucks (West York/York) has been serving effectively in the early going, and that continued with five aces for the Juniata junior.

Against Edinboro, the Eagles had three players reach double figures in kills to go with Kines? 19 put-aways. Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) pounded 12 kills, while Lindsey Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, Ohio) and Laucks each had 10.

McMinn was a factor defensively again for Juniata with 17 digs. Dale added 14 ups for the defense and Habel brought up 13. Kines and Erin Wisor (Altoona/Altoona) each had a pair of blocks defensively. Laucks? serving continued to be a factor as she recorded three aces.

Juniata will open its conference season Tuesday night as the Eagles welcome Albright to Memorial Gym.

Following the match there will be a ceremony to celebrate the career of Juniata Head Coach Larry Bock who claimed his 1,000th career victory in Juniata?s 3-0 win over Shippensburg Friday night.
